Después de retrasarse dos meses a causa de la pandemia, la Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas de Estados Unidos (AMPAS) ha anunciado a sus nominados para la ceremonia número 93 de los Premios Oscar. Este año la gala se realizará el 25 de abril en formato híbrido desde el Dolby Theatre de Los Ángeles y con videollamadas y transmisiones en línea.
Mank es la película con más nominaciones con un total de diez candidaturas, incluyendo Mejor Película, Mejor Dirección (David Fincher), Mejor Actor Principal (Gary Oldman) y Mejor Actriz de Reparto (Amanda Seyfried). Las otras cintas que también aspiran a más galardones son: Nomadland, Minari, The Father, The Trial of the Chicago 7, Judas and the Black Messiah y Sound of Metal, todas con seis nominaciones.
En esta entrega de los Premios Oscar por primera vez hay dos mujeres nominadas a Mejor Dirección: Chloé Zhao, por Nomadland, y Emerald Fennell, por Promising Young Woman. También Netflix ha hecho historia al tener un total de 35 nominaciones, Mank y The Trial of the Chicago 7 son sus dos grandes apuestas, aunque ambas películas la tienen difícil para conseguir el Oscar a Mejor Película, categoría en la que Nomadland es la gran favorita.
